Private car sale, does this look legit?
Discussion
My mum is selling her merc and had been offerened £750 more than part ex cost by a private buyer. He said he can send a driver down today to collect.
This is the buyer... http://www.prestigeconnections.co.uk/contact-me.ht...
Of course he could well be legit but a little suspicious of the feedback all from the last 7 days.
What is the best way to sell, I'm thinking cash only or bank transfer and only release car when funds have cleared.

He's not a private buyer, he's a trade buyer. As he has been doing it for ages, how does the transaction work? I've sold to trade before (at their premises). They do the transfer there and then and I've checked it arrive in mine there and then.
However it's much more reassuring to do it at the buyer's premises, then remotely.
I'm not sure how you'd get reassurances they are (he is) straight (in the business sense).

My mum sold a car to a similar specialist buyer, many moons ago. They were happy to give several hundred more than the local dealer would and picked it up on a lorry (between London and Southampton, so a good few miles). All fine, no problems. Internet bank transfer would definitely be the way to go these days.
I sold a TVR to a guy in Ireland who sent a lorry over to pick up without viewing. He transferred the funds by BACS about an hour before the lorry arrived. I checked with the bank who confirmed all was ok, and off it went.
I then sat sweating for a couple of days until he had phoned me to say he was very happy with the car.

Because we have discussed so many scams on PH my first thought was "The shipping agent scam".
I`m wrong, this looks very much legit, car collected from your door, money in the bank,no tyre kickers,no hassle.
Mind you as with any deal don't let the car move until the funds are securely in your account.Let us know how you get on.

Yes I've asked how he intends to pay just waiting for response.
Why would he tell you anything different from what he says in the 'About me' section on his website? All cars are collected nationwide and are paid for with an instant bank transfer.
Finance is also settled too. Funds are always cleared in your account before the car is driven away.
