Just gone past a speed van parked on the other side of a dual carriageway, looked down and realised I'd drifted up slightly above the limit. Would I be right in thinking that in a DC separated with a central res, he'd only be clocking cars coming towards to back of the van on his side of the road?
Or would it have also been covering traffic on my side across the reservation, going away from the rear mounted cameras?

How many lanes? 100's if they want.

How many carriageways separated by barriers? As many as they want.

Whilst the above replies are technically correct, on a moderate/busy dual carriageway, he'd only be clocking cars coming towards to back of the van on his side of the road. If you only drifted slightly over the limit, you've nothing to worry about anyway - enforcement only starts at 10%+2, and your speedo will over read by a couple of mph anyway.

Yeah, as soon as I see the word "scamera" I automatically think "entitled", rightly or wrongly...

If the limits were set correctly with the road conditions, there wouldn't be many issues, the fact they hide out in the most ridiculous places, where they are well aware people might need/want to make up a little ground, makes them a total mo Ely grabbing SCAM. I have yet to see one parked anywhere that I'm aware there are any accidents at all

apart from reference to the Scamera partnerships ( and their population with local authority types in addition to the handful of seconded Plod, trumpton and in some cases ambo staff ) , it usually indicates butthurt

Where is the scam ?

No-one is forcing you to exceed the speed limit, it is your personal choice, you know the limit (or should).
Whether or not you like the current laws if you knowingly break them it is your own doing, take responsibility for your actions, there is no scam.

I frequently go over the speed limits outside towns, I have been prosecuted for this a few times too, but I didn't bleat about it and blame anyone else.

How about SCUMvan then, just for you, and describing the mentality of the self righteous little twerps that volunteer for the job.

They can't be bothered solving burglaries, rapes and murders, and won't turn up for most incidents unless it might be on the telly, but they will waste resources standing around with a speed camera. Of course it's a scam, it's a crime against the general public where raising revenue stands above anything and everything else. They claim it's about safety, it's a about money - hence, deception, hence a SCAM

Fines in the name of safety, when it's really about revenue raising? Fits the definition, even for you

Clearly yes.

They think everything bad that happens is always someone else's fault, when really in most cases it is a lack of personal responsibility.

Calm down dears, let's just say these vans are just a money making racket.Yes they are catching wicked irresponsible people breaking the law.Like me doing 36mph down a hill,or the little old ladies rushing to church the other Sunday evening near us.
Then we are offered a £95 speed awareness course at a nice hotel run by the AA.It keeps lots of people employed and makes a good "profit".

Can wait for the day when you two come onto a road where they have suddenly and without warning designated it a safety zone, reduced the limit by 30mph, and stick a SCUMvan in the bushes, resulting in your licence being at risk for no more than assuming the limit which hasn't changed in 100 years would still be the same as ever, while there being no reason why the road has suddenly become a risky place to drive. That's the reason, no one, myself included, thanks they are entitled to break the speed limit, we do it as we feel confident and have cars to be able to do it safely, if we get caught, so be it, long as they can PROVE it. Traps are against the law, they've simply found a way to circumvent that rule on the back of supposed safety BS

If there was any traffic on the other carriageway at the time, I wouldn't worry too much.

They've got to put correct signage up, so if you are observant with your driving the change shouldn't be a problem.
You don't drive as it was yesterday, you drive as it is today.
