Got stopped last night and the ticket states 42mph in 30mph zone.

Officer advised I would be given the option of Speed Awareness Course, however from reading posts here and other people caught in similar situations they say this is not an option.

Anyone with any experience?

42/30 is usually a course (if you qualify).

It will be down to the force. They don't have to offer a course but usually will. You should get the info in the post in the next couple of weeks.

Here's an example. You should google the relevant force.

Thanks, nothing on the Merseyside website regarding speeding, will just wait and see

He told me he recorded me at a higher speed than he has noted on the ticket, maybe my luck is in

Well he wouldn't have wanted to take you out of the course option and into the FPN one as there is no gain for his Force in doing that. Better to keep the courses fully subscribed, his role might be dependent on it. In Dorset for example the course profit goes towards funding the No Excuse project which has Police Officers in its ranks.

Yer - and don't forget to wear your tin-foil hat when you go on the course, stops them stealing those brain waves!

If it was Lancs you are *just* on the limit - 30mph limit = Up to and Including 42mph

I know this as I am on my course next week for 40 in a 30.

Whatever Daytona 355 recommends, when he no doubt pops up on here with more bs, do the opposite and you will be fine.

Respect Berlin taxi.

Hahahahahahahaha see what I did there!

havent been caught in last 20+ years and ticketed, so never had to worry about what to do. Course, no points, £100 so what, don't worry about it, and don't take too much notice of the bs they give you, you really won't have killed any polar bears or children by default of driving a little quickly

Oh, and keep your eyes open next time, plod are pretty easy to spot, and if you have trouble, keep a note of their reg numbers every time you do see one, it's always handy. The local traffic guys park in plain view of a local hotel, I generally have a list of most of them, and colour, make etc.

Berlin hates me like a few others here because his blue friends can never pin something on me..... Not my fault I'm afraid, years of practice and more front than a young melinda messenger

Interesting. My wife was stopped - 49 in a 30. Bobby said 'well you slowed down when you saw us so I'm putting 42 on the ticket. That means you'll be offered a course instead of points.'

They must get less paperwork to do if people qualify for the course or something.

Get yourself an Akita, they might break in, but your keys will be there in the morning alongside a severed arm! I have four!

I have four Akitas, just to be on the safe side. The two bhes are the most obviously aggressive, while the two dogs go about their work quieter and stealthier. Often wondered how much fun it would be to see some scroat try to get onto the property, and back out again, minus a few limbs. Before all the internet law jockeys go mad, I have e correct signage, and very secure fencing, so the dogs are totally lawful protecting their own land, and can't get out.
