Insurance excess question
Discussion
Hi guys
My brother had an accident on Wednesday not his fault and the other party admitted fault immediately. His insurance claim is processing but they have taken £700 as his excess at first his insurer said they would claim it back however they are now saying that they wont as he didnt have legal cover. They also claim that he is not allowed to contact the other parties insurer. Is this normal?

Yes and no.
It is perfectly normal to deduct the excess, and it is normal not to claim it back unless legal cover is in place. What isn't normal is telling him not to contact tp insurers. How else can he get his money back?
He should ignore that nonsense, and do a polite letter to tp insurers with the receipt for the £700 excess he paid and ask for reimbursement.
