My car was recalled for a safety issue by the manufacturer. The manufacturer came and took the car away a month ago - after some badgering by me the work is now finally done but when pressing for them to return the car they say the earliest they can return it is 4th or 5th April. It was collected on the 19th February for 1 hours worth of work. The reason for it not being returned before them is simply to save them money paying for a delivery driver (their own driver is unavailable until then, so would have to pay someone).

Do I have any legal recourse to get them to return it in a more reasonable time?

Blimey - don't know about legal recourse, but name and shame time!
I've owned two cars that had recalls on them, a VW Golf - I phoned them, we agreed a time, they gave me a car to drive around in, my car was ready next morning.
A Renault, they sent a driver out to my house, collected car, returned my car 4hrs later.

How you've had the patience to wait a month without a car for an hours worth of work I don't know!

I assume that you have a courtesy car. I would be doing plenty of miles in their car as a point...

Nope. Initially I wasn't fussed as it was picked up mid-Feb I somewhat assumed it would be back in a couple of weeks. Had I any clue it would take this long I simply wouldn't have given them the car.

Is the the safety issue that it's mad as a box of frogs?

This would certainly be taking the piss for a family car with a national dealer network, but if you are in Scotland and have bought a car from a small track car manufacturer who don't even have a dealers in your country the goal posts have moved a lot.

Why?

Regardless of where he lives, the manufacturer has a legal obligation to carry out a safety recall in a timely manner.

A month is taking the piss!

Perhaps they should concentrate on quality control to stop this happening?
