I was stopped 2 weeks ago and was told I was going to be issued with a FPN. The police gave me a receipt and said I do not need to do anything until I receive the FPN through the post. Well it's been 2 weeks now and I've not had anything through. Do you think I have been let off?

Pretty sure as they've told you verbally they now have 6 months to serve it?

What was the reason for the FPN being issued?

I thought a FPN had to be issued within 14 days of the offence but up to 6 months for more serious issues.

I was stopped for contreveing solid white lines. Quite harsh in my opinion

I'm pretty sure the notice was what you received at the roadside.

Why the aggression?

Look at what agtlaw does (click on his profile) and then re-evaluate your response.

Okay okay.

The response was a bit sharp and irked me. Agreed there was no need for that.

Why do you think being stopped for breaking the law is a bit harsh? Solid white lines are there for a reason, usually safety.

I think you might be getting confused between the NIP and FPN.

You got the NIP at the roadside, so well within 14 days.

The police will be deciding on whether to issue a FPN or taking you to court probably. Contravening double white lines doesn't have to be dealt with by a FPN.

I didn't think being stopped was harsh, I though the FPN was.

I only just crossed the fixed white line as I pulled back in after the overtake.

The police will report the circumstances to a decision maker in a traffic report. From your description you will be lucky to get a FPN rather than be treated harshly receiving one. You are at the mercy of the decision maker at the moment I reckon.
