Okay so walking by Stoke newington police station yesterday I saw a fully liveried NYPD police parked at the rear gates of car park. I asked an off duty officer why its there and he said something about officers being sent to other places to see how local police do things. Now I can understand Polish police working with MPS but still don't explain how cruiser was in London. I didn't get a picture but it looked authentic though. Anyone able to offer any idea why metropolitan police need an New York police car?

That makes sense thanks. Looked a bit better than their usual diesel focus estates and Hyundai's.

Interesting link thank you. I didn't think they would cost £30,000 though for a six year old ex cop car.

I live next door to police station and no events that I'm aware and I asked an off duty officer and he gave me some confusing spiel about cross border cooperation which explained nothing. Its not important just a little strange to see a NYPD cruiser outside a London police station.

££markup, warranty, they seem to have a permanent showroom! Also their FAQs page is full of scare stories and bunkum - eg. "Never use ro-ro freight ... you car will sit on the deck of an ocean-going vessel" - whereas all new cars ship ro-ro, and they are never exposed to the actual elements.

It's relatively easy to buy and import an ex-police car from the US, although it's true certainly it's not for the lazy or those who can't organise or plan.

I haven't kept up with what Crown Vics are worth, but I'd think you could import and kit up something nice for well under half that (by ro-ro). For something a bit rough, half it again (£5k). It saves a LOT to get something near the east coast so it doesn't have to be trucked far.

Years ago our local Police station had some sort of programme where they exchanged roles for a week with USA police officers.

It was years ago but can remember two guys from Hawaii, the tall one kept saying to the shorter one in the check suit "Book em Danno" and a bald copper from New York sucking a lollipop who kept saying "Who loves ya baby"

Considering you can buy one from the US for around $5,000 and add the kit yourself for a grand or so it's quite a mark up
