o,S some five weeks ago we where told that 3 out of 9 of the offshore guys at my place of business where to be made redundant. Due to some missed admin and grievances, this slipped to the Thursday just gone. We where informed in a conference call on Thursday that now only one of 9 is being made redundant, and that the rest will be used for other duties as well as offshore.

My question is, Does this mean this is a whole new redundancy and the consultation period needs to start from scratch?? We have been told the new end date for consultation is Friday next week. Thanks in advance.

No still same only the consultation period has offered up a better solution than redundancy for two people.

The consultancy period is there to allow the affected (and others) to suggest ways to avoid redundancy. It sounds as if that was successful on this occasion. If Not for the remaining 1, then hopefully for the other two.

no idea, but from previous experience, is it a few at one site and a few more at other places? And if so, how many over the whole firm, as it used to be ( might have changed now), that redundancies in a firm were totalled over all branches, and after a set limit,a new period of consultation came into force.

This, (In this situation at the moment), of the 9 affected, 8 have either found internal transfers (internal jobs must be advertised, and given preference to those facing redundancy) or quit. The 9th is possibly playing the full time and working their notice
