Ebay issues.....
Discussion
Afternoon folks,
Wonder if anyone can offer some advice on an Ebay issue.
I recently purchased some detailing clay from a seller on Ebay. The first package was not delivered a week after expected date, so I contacted seller who advised item would be resent and tracked.
Second package was recorded as delivered with no signature, however I have not received the item. I have checked the bins / garden / neighbours, but nowhere to be seen. I then contacted the seller who basically said they had sent it twice and this is a joke and they have not responded since.
I then opened an 'item not delivered' dispute with Ebay, who closed it within an hour as they had a tracking number. I phoned Royal Mail to check the tracking number and it does not match my address. (address is correct on Ebay and Paypal accounts)
I have phoned and contacted Ebay through Twitter and they have said that I must get a written letter from Royal Mail saying the tracking number does not match my address. Obviously as I am not RM customer they cannot supply this.
I currently have a dispute raised through Paypal, but feel this will probably go the same way?
What is the best way to take this forward? Forget about it / Credit Card Chargeback / Small Claims?
Only been using Ebay for six weeks as I bought a new car, but once this is sorted accounts will be cloased and I will go back to Amazon/direct.

ebay don't always side with the buyer its just the common whinge fest that goes on here.
I bought a part from a uk seller. It was broken in transit. Seller magically decides he isn't English and wants the part sent back to china. It was going to cost £23 to send back recorded.
Ebay said they would charge the buyer and the buyer sent me emails saying he agreed to pay. Chased him for two months after the package had been signed for in china before he refunded me minus the return cost.
Spoke to ebay who said despite the emails sent they weren't going to chase him for the return cost as he had sent it to me free of postage and therefore they had fulfilled their terms of service by refunding me the same £0 cost postage. Not interested in him misrepresenting himself as a uk seller.
Sent the emails promising the £23 back to me only to get an email back asking me to take part in their 'how are we doing survey'

As someone who owns an ebay business myself and has been selling for several years please see below points:
eBay do not remove feedback anymore unless there is very very good reasons to do so such as profanity, flat out lies etc - I had one where someone said they left it by mistake, ebay still wouldn't change it.
eBay also don't close cases "within an hour", it would have to be open for at least 5 days and you would then get the option to escalate it to them before they would even get involved - you normally win the ebay claim by default in such a circumstance as you describe reference tracking number discrepancies
If just one of the above was incorrect then i'd say it was a mistake, but with all of them I find it hard to believe you have told the whole story... two sides and all that.
IF you have told the full story then instead of fannying about with things like twitter help why don't you pick up the phone and ring ebay? - Never understood why people resort to things like twitter for this sort of thing.
If the address the tracking number goes to does not match your paypal address then you will win the paypal claim, and if it makes you feel better the seller will also be charged an admin fee of around £20 for the chargeback.

The paypal address must match the postal delivery address, or the buyer will get refunded.

Tyranical, thanks for the input, but I can assure you that what I have put is correct. Ebay closed my case within an hour and my feedback contained no profanity. Basically said seller sent parcel to wrong address and ebay refusing to follow up.eBay do not remove feedback anymore unless there is very very good reasons to do so such as profanity, flat out lies etc - I had one where someone said they left it by mistake, ebay still wouldn't change it.

The first thing I done after the case was closed was phone Ebay, it was only after being annoyed by an Ebay CS moron that doesn't understand the Data Protection Act and Consumer Rights Act that I took to social media, funnily enough I got a better response on there, but the same out come of I have to prove delivery. I hope you never have any issues but it seems to be the way these days that social media gets more attention than a complaint procedure.
I have also phoned Paypal to try and make them check the address as I have no confidence in their abilities.
I appreciate sellers on Ebay have it pretty rough and I'm sure the honest sellers massively out number honest buyers, but I won't shed a tear for an incompetent seller that doesn't check paperwork, especially after one failed delivery.
You also say you have been using Ebay for several years, good for you, I've been using it for 6 weeks and I won't be using it again and if it costs me the £10 to find out what a shambles it is, then I think I got off lightly.
I've got sameish issue.
Ordered Haynes manual did not turn up. Contacted seller said he would resend, sent manual for wrong bike. Contacted again heard nothing.
He may assume I'm just going away I'm not. Started process today have to wait till 15th of April for next step. Let's see how it goes !

Sadly, quite a few scammers on eBay now claiming non-receipt of goods.
If the seller cannot supply a tracking number (ie, used a non-tracked service like 1st Class) then automatic refund.7
Not saying anyone on this thread involved, but eBay are aware and starting to look on claims with more suspicion.

Agree but I've emailed mine to say he sent the wrong thing not nothing. They seem to think because they don't actual have a shop the same rules Don't apply If the seller cannot supply a tracking number (ie, used a non-tracked service like 1st Class) then automatic refund.7

Just to close this out.
Had some further discussions with Ebay and got nowhere.
Thankfully my dispute raised though Paypal was won and I have been refunded.
Seems to be that EBay's buyer protection is useless, but at least Paypal seem to have a couple of brain cells.
Worked out well for me, found a local Car Detailing Supplier (Chemical Guys, Glasgow) and spent a fortune there, okay so may be worked out well for my new supplier.
