Had a surreal experience today. Had to go into Central London, so parked in a side street near Hayes and Harlington Station. found a space where there was no dropped kerb, but it was evident they used the paved over front garden to off-road park. Decided that as it was quite legal to leave the car there decidedd not to...just in case they took objection to the temp barrier. so i found another space further on in front of two wall front gardens, BUT it looked like a dropped kerb but not 100% sure, check there ere no slanting kerbs so dcided to take a chance and fight it if i got ticketed.
As i was walking away a chap stopped his car and started to tell me i couldnt park there. Nothing nasty, just advising. I said there wasnt any yellow lines and not a controlled zone so what did he mean. He just answered 'The lines, you must park within the lines otherwise you will get a ticket'. I said it isnt allowed in London boroughs
I just couldnt see what he meant, so he got out and showed me the white line ( very feint) on the pavement. 'That is the line' he explained. Then the penny dropped Parking on the pavement was allowed. I told him i hadnt seen a sign and he pointed one out at the entrance of the road. I just hadnt seen it!!

It really shook me to be told that parking with the wheels NOT on the pavement could be ticketed!!where the small blue signs are erected.
So if Sikhs drink or rather he tipples now and again, , an internet pint to the chap. If not a beverage of his choosing. I really appreciated his time to put me correct. There are nice people living in London!!! And i learnt something new today.

That's amazingly good luck in London on both counts, finding a parking space and a helpful person!

AFAIK they are normally only to be found in outer London Boroughs.

A sensible and pragmatic solution in narrow residential side streets.
Much better than slapping yellow paint everywhere.

Hayes Rd wasnt a million miles away from where i parked!

The signs is your second pic were the ones i missed driving into the road. I was more concerned with CPZ and resident parking restrictions, and they were not side on like the pic, but back to back at 90 degrees to the road.
The weird thing is, if i had parked 'normally' ie wheels against the kerb, having not seen the small blue 'park on kerb allowed' signs i would have got booked, possibly for obstruction. You do really need to be awake when looking for spots in the areas that are the London borough of...... kingdom. Luckily as a out of town resident who is aware(normally) of the rules of the London Boroughs, i can see how the occasional visitor gets caught out.

Still Kudos to the guy that put me right

So for clarity, parking 'normally' by the kerb here is the equivalent of parking a metre from the kerb on a 'normal' road and can be ticketed?

Speed king Pepipoo is your friend!
Had this claification from one of the residents on there. It is worth noting that there is always small print on the regs that the council could miss and screw up

The pepipoo reply

The sign (667) states vehicles may be parked partly on the verge or footway. So it could be argued that no contravention would occur.
However if the correct order is made then the contravention of 24 Not parked correctly within the markings of a bay or space. would occur Not withstanding that the bay is incorrectly marked (it should be a complete rectangle)

So there you go!!
