Hoping someone who is a licenced MOT tester would spare me a few minutes on the phone to try and help me with a problem with regard to a classic car. Its not a technical matter about an aspect of the MOT but more a question about the Computerised part of an MOT. If someone wouldn't mind emailing me a landline telephone number I and the guy I'm trying to help would be ever so grateful.

Thanks Steve

<wild guess>
Chassis number with a non-alphanumerical character? There's something in the latest FBHVC newsletter about that - it's been causing a fair few problems, apparently.

An MoT Issue
Towards the end of last year we received a few reports of difficulty being experienced with the new MoT test online system if the chassis/frame number of the vehicle contained characters other than alpha/numeric(e.g. ‘/’ and ‘-’). Whilst it took some time for DVSA to respond to our request for information they have now told us that the correct procedure is for the tester to enter the chassis/frame number omitting the non-alpha/numeric symbols. DVSA claim to have tested this procedure and confirm that it does work. Anyone still experiencing problems should check if the tester has followed the recommended procedure.

If it is that, there is a response from DVSA on the matters of testing blog;

"In these situations you should enter the VIN without the - or / and other special characters (ie anything that's not a number or letter) and you should be able to find the vehicle.

If you're still having problems finding the vehicle after trying this then create a new vehicle and type in the full VIN including the - or / and other special characters.

I hope this solves the issues you've been experiencing."
