Lidar Question
Discussion
This manual seems to suggest the range is in feet as the speed is presumably MPH.

Maximum range in UK 4500ft and in USA 6000ft
Skilled operators can acquire targets at 4500 and 6000 ft whether hand-held or tripod mounted.
A common statement is that 1 degree movement of the operator's hand moves the beam 6-7ft for every 100 yards the beam travels from the gun.Skilled operators can acquire targets at 4500 and 6000 ft whether hand-held or tripod mounted.
So at 4500 and 6000ft the beam end moves 97 to 130ft

The image is of a Pro Laser III.
It is made by Kustom in Kansas and is imported by Truvelo UK Ltd.

Perhaps you can provide evidence of a successful conviction at 4500ft where the device was hand-held by an aforementioned 'skilled operator'.It is made by Kustom in Kansas and is imported by Truvelo UK Ltd.

A wet dream I expect.
It always amuses me how many experts pop-up every time LIDAR is mentioned on a web forum.
The 6000' maximum range was so difficult to work that Kustom have now made the maximum range 8000' for the ProLaser IV; as the Americans say "Go-Figure".
Sits back ready for more amusing and nonsense commentary.

Which UK Constabulary is using this ProLaserIV then? The 6000' maximum range was so difficult to work that Kustom have now made the maximum range 8000' for the ProLaser IV; as the Americans say "Go-Figure".

And back to my original question....... Steady Eddie, the super-skilled operator with canteen bragging rights.

On a clear day you can easily see a car at that range. I'm gawping out the window now at a farm just over a mile away on the other side of the valley. I can see individual sheep, a well-known metric for the visibility of things round here.
Seeing it is one thing. Pointing a house brick at it and convincing a court you got a valid reading off Bessie is a different story.Try holding a rifle with telescopic sight and doing the same. And laser operators certainly ain't army snipers.
