Car showing as uninsured on ASKMID
Discussion
Posted a picture of my car on Facebook yesterday and some bright spark came back and told me to get my car insured.
Was horrified, and checked ASKMID, which confirmed that my car is apparently not insured.
Checked with my insurer today and they confirmed that car is fully insured.
Am I going to get a tug from the boys in Blue at some point, or do they use different data?
Do I need to speak to the DVLA?

Recommend you speak to your insurer first of all, they are responsible for updating the MID. Could be a simple typo on your policy e.g DV13 as DVL3 or some such. They'll be able to sort it quickly enough if it's their end. Worst case is you get pulled over and the officer will call the insurer to verify.

Cheers Kris, spoke to my insurer this afternoon and they confirmed that all was well.I have never checked with this site before, but have been with the insurer for about a decade, and owned this car since Oct 2014.

Purely anecdotal, but a few years back (I'd like to say it was when AskMID first started up, 2009ish?) I remember putting my personalised plates on my car at around 3pm, and then driving down a motorway an hour later. Went past an ANPR checkpoint and soon after was caught up by an unmarked Focus ST. The officer plainly stated that he believed I had no insurance - but when I presented the paperwork about the 'plate change, including a printout of my insurer's email confirmation, he was very happy to let me go.
If you've got proof from your insurer that your car is covered, then you should be okay. In your situation though OP, I'd be double-checking with your insurance provider. You could probably ring their 24/7 accident number to confirm you're insured if you're travelling out-of-hours.

It can take a few days to update, had this just recently with SWIMBO's car. Still worth a call to the insurer to confirm.
I would post a message back to Mr Smug & point out that the checking service he used is supposed to be for individuals checking vehicles that they have an interest in such as registered keeper or owner etc - As this is not the case you will be reporting him for a breach of the DPA.

Similar case to myself, bought a car on Friday and was stopped on the Sunday. I had a copy of an email from the insurers on my phone and the police made a call to confirm. They were very polite and understanding about it, apologised for delaying me and off I went. If you've got proof from your insurer that your car is covered, then you should be okay. It doesn't state on the site, but I think it would constitute a breach under the Computer Misuse Act too.I would post a message back to Mr Smug & point out that the checking service he used is supposed to be for individuals checking vehicles that they have an interest in such as registered keeper or owner etc - As this is not the case you will be reporting him for a breach of the DPA.
IMO the database should really be freely available as an API or bulk download. Likewise the MOT and full (anonymised) DVLA vehicle's database should also be available for free bulk download and API access.
