Hi all, this is not going to make much sense me thinks but thought I would try anyway..

Mother is the RK, Father driver. Mum told me they received a letter regarding an offense that happened 6 weeks ago. As far as I can make out, 1 occurrence of 38mph in a 30mph zone and a second offence worded as, 0 (zero) mph through a red light. All I can gather is NIP is mentioned, all on one page. I have never received any traffic related fines so no nothing. How can you go 0mph through a red light?

I know this is vague and makes little sense. They letter was sent back so cannot check it myself. Mum also said the letter contained words to the effect of "chance of £1000 fine"

Apologies! I know this makes little to no sense lol..

Two different offences in the same letter?

That is a bit unusual.

Presumably the 0mph through the red light is its the offence of going through the red light that is the issue, the speed isn't relevant and the camera equipment probably isn't designed to measure speeds.

As already said seems rather strange to get both in one letter especially as they're different types of offences?

Chances are it was a pro-forma letter that is used for speeding OR red light offences and as it shows 0mph for the red light most likely just speeding. Shpould result in a Speed Awareness Course offer.

Sounds like a Notice of Intended Prosecution from Merseyside Police.

It's one offence - speeding. Ignore the bit about "time into red light 0"

38/30 is usually a speed awareness course or a £100 fixed penalty with 3 points.

I suspect it's a combined red light / speed camera ie 'Speed on Green'.

How much time elapsed between the alleged offence and the recipe of the letter? If it happened 6 weeks ago and it's only just arrived they might be able to get out of it

38 in a 30, send them to the gallows. rofl

Just unlucky i'm afraid, what was it the advert used to say 'Hit me at 38 and it'll hurt, hit me at 30 and it'll still hurt.

Might not be such a bad thing, my Dad is early 70's and displaying early signs of dementia.. He was a private hire driver all his working life and used to be an excellent driver.. He gave me a lift a while back and jesus.. at one point I had to swap seats as he had driven us into a dead end (very) small car park.. Then proceeded to drive into a car dealership instead of turning left at a junction!

Due to some new laws he is awaiting news from DVLA to see if his driving days are over due to medication? Sad to see old age do it's thing..

Much thanks for the replies guys, appreciated :-)

Apparently the letter (from Merseyside Police) asked for the registered keeper (mum) this was filled out and posted back. What happens next? Will they write again asking for the drivers details? How quickly or slowly will it take? (length of string?) Do people stress more easily as they age? My Parents were absent from my life for 10 years or so til around 15 months ago. Still surprises me how much they've aged.

Cheers for any replies again :-)
