I got caught speeding in Nov last year. 71 in a 50. Got an offer of fixed penalty through, paid it on time and got the form back confirming the same with a payment number + a stamp on it (from 27th Jan!). I also can see the payment leaving my account on my statement. I checked with DVLA and the 3 points have been added to my license. It says on the form that by doing this I discharge liability to conviction.

Fast forward several months and I have just got another completely different set of forms 'Single Justice Proceedure Notice' through for the same offence as though I hadn't done the above before. I have 21 days to plead and it doesn't mention the option of or amount for a fixed penalty etc

There are no phone numbers or anything on the form although it seems to have been issued by Bromley Mags Court who are closed at the moment. The original form was processed by Southend Regional FPO (!)

What do I need to do to sort this out and am I right in thinking that because I accepted the fixed penalty earlier that I can't be in any more bother about this! I have slowed down BTW

A bk has clearly been dropped, and it shouldn't be hard to sort out. I'd do it writing, though, and enclose copies of the documentation you've got.

Unless... It wasn't two separate cameras on the same day, was it?

No it was the same offence, exactly the same date & time and location on both forms! How can this happen. Who should I write to now to sort this out? The mags court that issued the papers? The FP Office?

As someone has already said, send copies of everything that you have covering the initial series of correspondence and fixed penalty notice to Bromley Mags Court and ask them why this case has been brought. It has to be Bromley that you must deal with otherwise they'll start chasing you after 21 days! Presumably they'll refer the case back to whoever has raised the matter of a court hearing. And, then, in a perfect world, you'll receive an apology, perhaps, or maybe not. smile

You did surrender your license for endorsement?
I've never had a ticket, but I'm sure the NIP also requires that you send you license in and by not doing so you failed to comply with the fixed penalty offer.

It's all electronic now. The green bit has been scrapped so you would have nothing to send in? Use the online checker thingy with your driver's number and see whether the points have gone on.

As Stoofa said you have to send your licence off to DVLA/Fixed Penalty Office despite there no longer being a paper licence. If you don't send it they will refund your fine money and it goes to court.

I did surrender my license and I checked with DVLA and the 3 points went on. I called the payments place and they confirmed it was dealt with and closed so tomorrow I will have to try the Met's fixed penalty office and Bromley mags court. Luckily I have nothing better to do with my time!

That's amazing! beer

More importantly, it's before the "you must be at fault/this stuff doesn't happen" brigade came along! hehe

Yup

When my wife got a speeding ticket that could not possibly have been her i asked for advice on here. A lot of posters were trying to convince me that she was lying/cheating.

We queried the ticket and it was cancelled immediately saying proper procedures had not been followed.
