So earlier I was involved in a hit and run.

In a 30, a car has come flying up behind me, overtaken and slammed on its brakes whilst cutting me up coming in. I couldn't quite stop in time but managed to make the damage not to bad.

He gets out, looks at the damage looks at me and starts walking to the car (I thought the guy was going to just break down the window and stab me - looked that sort of character) and was walking like he was drunk and drives off in the space of about 5 seconds. My car needs a new bumper, bonnet & headlight from visual damage alone.

Fortunately there were at least 5 witnesses and I managed to get the reg number of the car. Also about 5 minutes later when I was getting their details a police was on patrol and stopped. They took multiple witnesses statements, breathalysed me (zero) and said they'd try and go and find the driver. They said it was registered to someone different than insured. Doesn't stick me as a good sign.

The guy looked drunk/on drugs which can only describe his behaviour. All witness saw what happened as above and police said they'd be looking for dangerous driving and failing to stop so shouldn't be classed as my fault.

I've called my insurance company and they've said leave it with them.

This is my first accident so not to sure where I go from here. Do I just leave it with insurance/police. Not sure what else I can do really.

I imagine you got a crime reference number? If not give the local police a call tomorrow to sort that out because a crime has occurred and they will need that info. As long as you have informed your insurer, they will start their process.

Sit tight and dont worry about the insurance, its what they do for a living.

Just be glad you are OK smile
