Disable bay sign and fine
Discussion
Hi all, can I I get a little help with where I stand on this?
Was fine at 6:50pm for parking in a disable bay on a street, was popping into tesco to grab dinner but i did think I was fine due to the time being after 6pm but came back to a traffic warden and a slapped ticket on the car.
Asked the traffic warden where to pay the fine, was told where and also told that the time frame on the sign doesn't exist as its disable bay holders 24/7 which is why I was fined?
Happy to pay if am in the wrong but I do think having the time gives an impression that it's okay after 6pm

Mon-Sat 8am-6pm, three hour max, no return within three hours.
Seems blatantly obvious to me.
If you have a disabled badge then, from Mon-Sat, 8am-6pm, there's a maximum three hour parking, no return within three hours. Outside those times, there's no time cap.
If you don't have a disabled badge, you cannot park there, at all. 24x7.
I think it's a poorly formatted sign, but yes, they got you fair and square.
My similar situation was parking in the one part of a street that wasn't quite the same rules as the entire other run of it both sides, for no discernable reason. Felt a bit annoyed as I thought I was obeying the requirements, but it was a fair cop.

I nearly got a ticket in the middle of the night once,in the City of London.
They patrol in a car at those times.
Back in the 90s, I once got a ticket in central London (just off Regent Street) at 02:34am. We were going clubbing and I was the nominated driver. We went past a "suspended" parking bay and I wasn't going to park there but my sister who was also with us insisted that it would be fine as it was already past midnight. I said I would only park there if she would pay the fine if got a ticket. She laughed and said she would, but stopped laughing when we returned and there really was a ticket on the car. They patrol in a car at those times.

She had more money than me in those days. I was still in the second year of a 6 year degree, and being 4 years older than me, my sister had already graduated and was working.I don't think it's poorly formatted to be honest. It says quite clearly that it's disabled badge holders at all times. The stuff underneath then just relates to their restrictions. I guess it's more intuitive if you read it in one go.. Disabled badge holders only, whom can only park for 3 hours maximum, and can't return within 3 hours of leaving.

Surely in the above newspaper article, if a car were to park in between the two bays, they aren't parking in a pay and display bay and in the absence of any signs or yellow lines to the contrary, they can park there restriction free without having to pay anything?
Hard to tell from that photo, but I've successfully contested a number of tickets for parking in a loading bay where there has been no kerb markings. I recently had one where the bay is a P&D between 9am and 5pm, and a loading bay outside of these hours. The ticket was issued at 8pm but the signage is not clear anyway, and as there were no kerb markings to clarify it was a loading bay, the TPT appeal was upheld. If anyone else wants to try it, this is the relevant regulation section.
“The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002” Part II, section 22–26 – a designated Loading Bay should be marked by a single yellow kerb marker to indicate that statutory prohibition or restrictions are in place at certain times of the day. This is displayed in Road Marking Diagram number “1019” of the 2002 Traffic Signs Regulations document.
