Car burned out and removed by police
Discussion
My sons car spontaneously combusted on a trunk road Sounds like a fuel pipe failed. Fire brigade extinguished the flames. The police arranged for its removal because it was partly obstructing a trunk road. The Council were called out to clear up oil spill. Do we expect a bill for the removal and clean-up? Does the insurance cover this?
Thanks
Thanks
i had a car set on fire whilst driving. car wasnt worth enough to make it worth an insurance claim. fire brigade put it out, police asked some questions, then i called the scrap yard to pick it up the next day. no fines, never heard another thing about it. in my case, council didnt come to clean up and i made arrangements for the collection, so slightly different
Yes and Yes.
The recovery company don't do charity, neither does the council if the road needs repairs. You need to inform your insurance that charges are likely to arrive for both. Once you get the bills, forward them to your insurance immediately.
RCBRG They're not fines, but charges for services

The arsonist must have been quick on his feet
Insurance may not pay out on both counts.
If the car didn't catch fire due to negligence, they may not pay out to the council as the policy holder isn't liable unless they were negligent.
Sometimes certain insurance companies don't pay out for random fires like this if it was caused due to "wear & tear". Check the T&C's for fire related claims.

A PH'er got caught out by this last year I think. From memory, the insurance company was something like Admiral?
