Askmid,insurance cover and online vehicle taxing mystery

Can anyone explain this one - Bought a motorcycle at the weekend,phoned insurer this morning and got it added onto my policy,recieved documents by email,all details correct,6.30pm this evening bike is still not showing on askmid,i have read that it can sometimes take hours or days to appear,but I decided to try and tax the bike online anyhow and guess what? it went through no problem ,doesn't the DVLA website check with askmid before issuing vehicle tax?

The insurance check was axed in 2015 if I recall correctly.

I think the insurance check was abolished as far back as 2013.

I was not aware of that,why did they abolish it?

Because it was a pain in the arse and largely pointless. Not being able to tax a vehicle purely because the insurance database hasn't been updated yet helps no-one. The requirement for insurance is better covered by the continuous insurance regulations,

Because the list of taxed vehicles is constantly checked against the list of insured ones now, all year, instead of just once.
