Bit of a strange one, a model aircraft was crashed into my car today, by a member of a flying club. If I make a claim on their public liability insurance for the damage (new windscreen and possible front corner repaint), do I have to inform my insurers? As I'm not sure if it will count as a motor insurance claim.

Will be speaking to their insurers tomorrow to find out their process, and mine in due course afterwards if needed.

Tell them and your policy premium will go up.

It`s not motoring claim so just claim from them and tell your own insewerance company nowt.

To comply with the terms of your policy, you need to tell them. I imagine many would not bother.

You might be dealing with the BMFA for claiming. That's fine, but I'm not sure it'll be that fast.

Yep they are insured with the BMFA- would have preferred to just get £100 and polish it out myself but can't be bothered with increases in premiums if I have to declare it.

There are plenty of occasions where it doesn't increase premiums.

Have you asked them for the 100 quid?

And really it's not up to you to speak to their insurers. Get the car fixed and send the bill to whoever was in control of the plane.

According to the BMFA website they send a statement in, if I want to make a claim I need to ring up BMFA then they work out if they're going to pay.

BMFA will investigate as they need to see some negligence. Sending the bill to the guy flying will just result in him forwarding it to BMFA.

OP, on your next renewal, your insurer will ask whether you have had any accidents, claims or suffered any loss, irrespective of blame.

What will you tell them?

A plane crashed into my car, but the third party repaired it.

I'd like to be a fly on the wall of that call centre....

Insurers might try for 50/50 claiming that if your car hadn't been parked where it was then the model aircraft wouldn't have crashed into it rolleyes

EDITED TO ADD: "did you have a dashcam fitted"?

There's not many places that will fit a windscreen for £100, unless you're claiming on your insurance which is then recorded as a claim, it doesn't affect your NCB but it's still a claim
