Can anyone confirm that its possible for the same person to hold 2 different driving licenses in the UK?

On other forums its been suggested that this is possible (rightly or wrongly)

One would apply for a license using their birth cert (including middle name) and then apply for another license using their passport with no middle name (using different address)....so in effect 2 different people?

Thanks

Could be useful in the event of a driving ban wink

You can have 2 licenses in the USA, but in the UK, you can't. You can, however, have 2 licences.

How is it in effect two different people?
If you are disqualified you are disqualified even if you had 100 licences in your possession.
Same with criminal records, you can give as many names as you like but everything will go on the first record which will become the file name & the other names are just listed as aliases.

And you got the passport with................the birth certificate.

It is an offence to apply for a licence if you already hold one of the same class

s.102 RTA 1988 said:
A person is disqualified for obtaining a licence authorising him to drive a motor vehicle of any class so long as he is the holder of another licence authorising him to drive a motor vehicle of that class, whether the licence is suspended or not.
"licence" within the context of this part of the RTA refers only to a UK driving licence. The link posted by BlueHave refers to an EU directive which has not yet been implemented in the UK.

the powers that be lost my licence whilst putting points on it, so sent me a new one

when they found the old one, they posted it on

hence two licences

That's a duplicate licence as opposed to a second licence.

And you are wrong.

The plural for licence is licenses.

Not in the UK it isn't; licenses is the third person singular, present tense, form of the verb "to license". The plural of the noun "licence" is "licences".

A collegue of mine got banned for drink driving. He thought he could continue driving on his Polish license. He thought wrong.

You just got to love PH. Don't worry about the legality or otherwise of having more than one licence as long as you spell the plural of licence correctly hehe

Anyway OP, do you have a friend with a potential ban looming or is he/she trying to get insurance or similar using a clean licence?

Just interested as to the reason for your question.
