Fail to stop RTC
Discussion
I'll try and keep this as short as possible.
Brothers car (motorbility wheelchair accessible) was parked outside on the road of his carers address. She has come out and seen there is a fair bit of damage to it. This was three weeks ago now.
His carer noticed a car nearby with matching damage, and part of their car was on the floor which we now have.
Motorbility wanted a police incident number, so contacted them and passed the VRM to them.
They've told my mum they have six months to deal with it. I've had a complete mind blank, and should know this working for the Police but I seem to have in the back of my head they have 14 days to send the NIP (to find out who was driving at the time) from the day of the offence.
Google isn't really helping, mostly coming up with speeding NIPs or when they are looking at driving without due care (which does require it to be within 14 days), not just fail to stop/fail to report.
Many thanks.

No NIP is required if there has been an accident.
A NIP has nothing to do with establishing the identity of the driver. This would be done via section 172 of the RTA. There is no time limit on a section 172 request.
ETA - Fail to stop/report are not offences which require a NIP.

Not aware of the law having changed (it may have) but they are currently not offences which require a NIP. Is it possible they were sent out in relation to possible proceedings under s.2 or s.3 of the RTA as opposed to the fail to stop/report offences?ETA Used to go out in the same envelope as the S.172 request!
