I thought this story was an April Fool's joke - but no, what a shambles and what an embarrassment for Police Scotland.

What do you think? Good idea or waste of money?

Sounds a good idea to me. Reminds you about your speed without the financial and licence consequences.

Great idea. Lincs police used to park a spare Panda car in our village from time to time, and that worked smile

I know the manager of a local discount store. Apparently shoplifting more or less stopped completely after they put a life sized cardboard copper by the entrance!

I've come across 'Bob' in Dunfermline and can confirm his effectiveness! Took me a good few moments to decide if he was real or not and even then as I got closer I had my doubts. So long as they don't leave him in the same location then it's a decent idea IMO.
Hopefully his twins don't start appearing on nice NSL roads and motorways though!

My local Sainsbury's petrol station has one in the front window.

Must have frightened the life out of the Travelling Community illegally parked up on the Audi garage just down the road....

They put them out for an hour or so then move them about. They're never in the same location too long and they're chained to the lamp post too.

I think these are counted as May's patrolling officers.

If they are meant to deceive, i.e. make a person think they are police officers, then it is wrong. If it is done for other reasons then fine.

It's basic behavioural science and works on the same stimulus / response manner as any other visual road marking.
