How long to wait for a speeding ticket?

Maybe not quite the correct title. Just wondering how long I need to wait until I find out what my punishment is?
Was zapped by a mobile camera on 31st July in my wife's car, within a week or so she received the letter, saying I was pictured doing 82 on the m/way (heading in Brighton FYI). Fair cop. She sent the form back saying I was the driver, I duly received a NIP about 6 weeks later which I filled in a sent back. Here we are 7th October and still not heard back from anyone. Does it usually take this long? Not overly bothered but a bit irritating that its on the back of my mind.

Would expect a FPN or invite to attend a naughty boys workshop upto 4 / 4.5 months from date of alleged offence.
After that, they have 6 months from alleged offence date to commence court proceedings. Note that summons / requisition could arrive beyond 6 months although, at the speed alleged, it`s not likely to progress to that without some reason other than speed alone.
