Yuh sorry, but seriously, there are pictures of my car with the number plate as well. It appears they also take photos of the sign that should have been obeyed.
Are you looking to challenge the PCN? If so, on what grounds will your appeal be based on? I presume that the overgrown foliage obscuring the sign would be a fair start to say that the signage was unclear, but if that is the case, why do you sound surprised at the photo on the council website, as you would have seen the sign for your self at the time of parking?
Make sure that you choose the reasoning for appealing the PCN carefully, as the council would have heard all of the usual excuses.
Just this week, a PCN that I received for parking in a disabled bay was cancelled on the basis of a carefully drafted appeal claiming misleading & incorrect signage.

Yeh I've appealed it through the site..If so, on what grounds will your appeal be based on? Dear Sir,
I have carefully reviewed your photographic evidence, and have come to the conclusion that the sign was not visible.
Thankyou
richardrsc.
I'll update when I get a response.

Yeh it did make me chortle. Who's TPT?
Traffic Penalty Tribunal - the next step in the appeal process. The Local Authority may quash the ticket on your very brief appeal, but if not, then they will send you details of how to appeal to the TPT. You will need a bit more bones to your appeal though, and using a few quotes from various road traffic legislations, I think you stand a very good chance of getting it cancelled.
I've had similar cases myself, overgrown bushes and even graffiti on signs has been enough for the tickets to be cancelled.
Don't ignore though - Local Authority tickets have a lot more legal clout behind them, and can escalate to silly money and bailiff situations.
I successfully challenged a ticket on the grounds it was obscured by bushes, it strengthened my case that the direction I walked away in as my car was towards the end of the bays had no further signs detailing the particular restrictions (permit only) on it, the other bays in the area were permit too but crucially they had specific time periods when the spaces were available to anybody, which at the time the ticket was issued they were. It was accepted it was reasonable to assume having looked at those signs, the same restrictions applied to the bay where I was parked in the absence of clear signage which there was not as it was buried in the bush.
Not in Hitchin though it was Dartford who took it all the way then lost spectacularly as they decided to be economical with the truth when questioned about the signage & restrictions. Took a further 6 weeks after they lost before the bushes were cut back, I wonder who else they got in that time that just rolled over & paid. Cocksockets

And we have a response:
I am pleased to inform you that I have accepted your explanation in response to the
Penalty Charge Notice detailed above.
The Penalty Charge Notice issued in connection with the contravention has now
been cancelled and a request for the foliage around the sign to be cleared has been
issued.
Happy days
