Advice please. ACCIDENT. Other drive drove off!
Discussion
Hi all,
Just after some advice. someone reversed into my brothers car yesterday. as my brother got back in his car after speaking to other party....to put it in a safe place off the road...the other 'gentleman' jumped in his car, switched off his lights and drove off.
His car cam has captured the make and model of the car but not the full registration. My brother has the first part of the registration ( letter letter number number).
It's his first accident in over 10 years and left him a bit shaken. Is there any advice you can share? Or is it a case of tough luck?
Thank you for reading this.

Report this to an open Police station with all the evidence he has.
Police can do partial registration searches - for example - they will search for a black golf with the partial reg OU14 - but without the 3 last letters. there will only be a few black golfs that start with OU14 ---, and even less that will have triggered an ANPR in the local area at that date and time.
Then a quick search on PNC and police have all the details for registered owner / insured person on said car - and then details can be passed to insurance to investigate.

Thank you for the prompt replies.
His insurance have said without the other guys details he will have to pay the £300 excess and be his fault claim. The damage is to two driver side doors and sill...pretty extensive as the other car had a tow bar.
I will ask him to make contact with the local police to check.
Thank you.

This all day long, first thing the police will do is check CCTV and ANPR within the area.Police can do partial registration searches - for example - they will search for a black golf with the partial reg OU14 - but without the 3 last letters. there will only be a few black golfs that start with OU14 ---, and even less that will have triggered an ANPR in the local area at that date and time.

Just to update...
Went to the police station with my brother this morning and told without the full registration of the car AND camera footage of the accident showing the car and registration...their traffic department won't even consider looking into this. PLUS I would need details of an independent witness as well !
so guess guess he has to draw a line under it and move on.
Thanks for everyone's input.

When my van was broken in to during the summer they wouldn't attend, and still wouldn't to finger print it when I did the leg work and found out the name of the thief. I sometimes wonder how serious a crime needs to be for the police to do any police work.
When my van was vandalised (painted in green gloss) around 1am we saw the culprit and knew him!..Van parked legally in the road outside my house, BTW.
Police weren't interested at all and said they were too busy to attend.
So I moved the van (a 5.6t Merc) and left it blocking the road...a residential, urban, one-way Street with cars parked on both sides..Police showed up inside 10 insane threatned to arrest me, but still wouldn'teven consider the vandalism!

My parked car was written off by some muppet in a purple Proton when parked in London many years ago. A nice passer by left a note with all car details but the last 2 letters of the number plate.
I went to the police, imagining that there couldn't be too many purple Proton whatevers with matching first 5 letters of the number plate.
They couldn't have cared less, literally couldn't have cared less, diddly squat...

To be pedantic I'm not sure you can legally park a 5.6 ton commercial vehicle outside a residential property?!Police weren't interested at all and said they were too busy to attend.
