Just left my sisters and was sat in the car, talking to Sis and BiL through the window when 2 of these little buzzbombs came screaming past, 2 seconds later we hear a squeal of tyres as one locks up at the end of the street before just managing to hold it for the left hander. BiL and I roll eyes and off I go. Take the same left turn, on for fifty yards before the right hand corner and I can hear them screaming back toward me on the road I'm turning into. I stop and watch one of them lose it and slide on his ar*e, following his buzzbomb, across the junction and up the pavement.
He picked himself up, mainly hurt pride and ar*e, while his mate got off his to pick up the mirror and other bits and bobs from his mates 'bike'! I hate these needlessly noisy fekin things that scream up and down half the night, ride a foot off your bumper through traffic, making feints left and right to try and over / undertake, so must admit to laughing my ar*e off while slowly driving past. Might teach the little tw*t an lesson, but somehow I doubt it! Hi mate did manage to look embarrassed through a full face helmet so must have some talent!! rolleyes

Me too. I remember doing many similar silly things on my Fizzy. I miss the purpleness of it, the bombing about with mates, going to Oxford which was a LONG WAY and trying to impress goirls...

The stupidity of it made me laugh, the noise of these things as they tear around I find infuriating!! I did stupid things as a kid / young male. Don't think I wound up a whole neighbourhood by screaming up one street, across to the next, back across to the first, and repeat all fekin night!! At least I hope not!! If they didn't sound like a fekin wasp on speed they wouldn't be as bad. Even my fizzy sounded better and that's showing my age! I am now officially a Grumpy Old Man!!

Hehe I can remember riding my pals wee dirt bike down to the local playing field and hooning it around in the mud until the grounds keeper chased us, just village streets, we where about 14/15, only realised how hilariously illegal that is when I turned 19/20.

I remember we got chased by the plod once and had to run into the woods and burry the bikes in branches (we had a wee den in there). Suppose its better than sitting about in the park and drinking like most kids I see now, what a difference 10 years of health and safety madness makes to the youth.

Not a lot different to what we were doing xxx years ago with BSA Triumph Norton etc 250s laugh
Long before crash helmets were required & Japanese bikes were just coming in.
OK I didn't fancy a solo & had a 1950 BSA 650 twin with a sidecar (double adult chair removed and replaced with the obligatory tin bath bolted to the chassis) which in the early 70s was legal on L-plates. And yes, it is possible to go round a left-hander on two wheels and sliding on your right boot sole with the chair wheel off the ground 'cos you've overcooked it a tad.......
Still got the bike - now solo - & it's worth somewhat more than the £25 I paid for itsmile

I am glad some of us can still remember what we were like when 18 or so. I remember a 'mate' driving along a pavement with the apparent intention of running me down - I got through a hedge just in time.

Had I been a bit slower, would I have wanted him to be done for Death by Dangerous Driving?(Had it existed then)- of course not.Although my parents might have seen it differently I suppose.

I deserved it for an occasion when I had scared him witless a week before with some equally stupid driving.

They certainly make an awful noise, but here in the heart of boyracer country, there is nothing like the tomfoolery there once was on the roads, for better or worse.

I often wonder if it is a good or bad thing that you lads don't piss about as much now as they did, or at least that's what it seems like. It's perfectly natural to take risks in your teens, what happens to grown-ups that didn't take risks in their youths? It seems like most teens are now to scare to go out and sit at home getting fat, which ultimately, will be very costly for us all.

We had a track on the foreshore we would ride a mates old Honda 50 around, without helmets. Could get quite scary 2up when you hit the bumps!! BiB would often stop us as we wheeled it there, (honestly Guv), but as long as we weren't being idiots, would just tell us to be careful. Often gave advise but just let us get on with it!! This is mid 70's. If we were being idiots or got lippy, I can remember being read the riot act and even one lad getting a clip round the ear and told to get himself home and wait for a visit!! Nearly cr*pped himself and shot off home, waited all afternoon! No visit, but the next time, same Bobby says to him, "Bet you were a bit worried the other day weren't you? Don't give me lip again!", and off we went!! Can't see that happening now and expect BiB get way more lip but can't do much about it!

Oh Crap!! I am a Grumpy Old Man!!

I'm 36 though and the novelty hasn't worn off.

If I get the chance to wheelie a bike on a public road then I will.

3 weeks ago I was doing doughnuts in the middle of a road in a road legal S14 drift car while the oncoming traffic simply stopped at a safe distance until I had finished.

Yes, I'm a complete plonker at times, but sometimes you just need to be silly.

Pfft with all the cameras around everywhere most of us are smart enough to pop the plates off before doing something outrageous biggrin, or atleast smear some st on them.

EDIT: Is this the only thread on pistonheads not full of stuck up old nimby's? We cant let this die! biggrin

Young lads will always do stupid things on small engined motorcycles, after all they aren't fast so doing stupid things is the only way to entertain yourself with one, as long as any harm done is self-contained - no problem.

One thing I can't stand (and never have) is making the bloody things noisy, I'm all for a fruity exhaust on something that actually sounds good; big V-twin, super bike, big V8 or V12 or a high revving race engine etc. but not a single cylinder 50cc moped, the sound isn't just awful its grating.

I agree on the SP&L point though – should this not be in the lounge.

I think the issue with the noise is that they're all automatics now so it's a constant screech. I'm sure our 4/5 speed mopeds weren't half so annoying, back in the day, even with illegal pipes. Or maybe I'm just old, too?

Thinking back to what we used to get up to at 16/17/18, I'm actually quite surprised I'm not dead.

Lost a few mates to bike accidents as we progressed from off-road bikes to mopeds, 125s and then onwards with tests passed, etc.

Also bloody glad there were no dashcams back then! laugh

I hate them on the road (or worse, pavement) with stupid exhausts.

Fine with them finding a field/old railway track/industrial estate and having fun.
