Hi all
I wonder if anyone has advice on the following
For the last 3 weeks a small van has been parked on a main road with big signs attached to it
It hasn't moved day or night and is just being used as advertising
It is tax tested and insured
I know it's not a big problem but it looks crap
Advice welcomed

Some forms of advertising are permitted without consent from the local planning authority, some have 'deemed consent' and some require the express consent of the local authority.

See the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) Regs 2007.

A brick or two through the windows? The Plod would then regard it as a danger to pedestrians, especially children who might want to play around it & have it removed.

A baby goods shop owner in Canterbury bought an old escort van,had it sign written and parked it outside someone's house on the main road, her attitude was it's taxed tested and insured so I'll park it where I like. I would have moaned if I lived there as parking was an issue to start with.

Some of the shops at Westwood cross in Thanet have been known to buy old bikes place a piece of wood in the frame advertising something, then paint it white and chain it to street furniture.

There is a huge difference between " playing the system" and throwing bricks through the windows of someones property. Maybe the system is being played but they are playing within the law. I wonder, if someone throws bricks through your windows because they have a problem with your actions will you see it as a reasonable response?.

Dont throw a brick through the windows.

Put a few "Police aware" A4 signs on it, and within 24 hours someone else will have put bricks through the windows for you.

Oh please! - You don't seriously expect anything better than this type of response on here any more do you?

Whereas Pistonheads used to be a place where you could come and get some decent, sensible advice concerning problems, it has now descended into a place of yob-mentality, where the keyboard warriors suggest that committing criminal acts against someone who has annoyed you (including physical violence!) is perfectly acceptable, because they think it is clever!

The sad part is, this is why so many of the people who used to offer the best, sensible advice have left the site, because of all the idiots who post here now with their Law breaking vigilante nonsense!

You're not wrong there Phill. I would have suggested something along the lines of give it a few weeks and if it hasn't moved ring the number on the van and ask nicely if they could move it on up the road a bit.

There's a signwritten old van at Chislehurst station (I think it's a kit made to look like something vintage) but it's an absolute wreck. Not moved in years and has been vandalised. I often wonder what the deal is with it - must need a parking permit. Can't have a current MOT the state it is in...
