Unknowingly in possession of stolen items
Discussion
In July 2015 I purchased a camera on eBay, it was purchased in good faith. When the camera was received, it contained a memory card, with an email address written on it. I tracked that individual down on Facebook and sent them a message asking why their memory card would be in the camera. I heard nothing for 18 months, until yesterday, when I assume they found my message in the 'non-friend' inbox that most people don't know exists on Facebook.
The photos on card allowed me to provide a good description of the individuals, when and where photos were taken, from these descriptions they have advised the photos on the card point to it being a camera that was stolen from his friend in 2015.
I have offered to return the camera if required, even if it will be £400 to my detriment, as I assume the camera still belongs to the person it was stolen from? If it was subject to an insurance claim, I believe ownership would transfer to the insurer.
Am I wise to first of all seek confirmation that the camera was indeed stolen, was reported to the police as stolen, crime reference details and if it was subject to an insurance claim? Then when I have this information take it from there?

I would be inclined to post them the memory card and ask them to get their insurance company to email you if it subject to an insurance claim. If it wasn't an insurance claim then I would give them the details of the seller and let them take it up with ebay
Do that.Might not even be stolen lol.
