Attention PH detectives
Discussion

This car has been parked about 50m up from our house for about six weeks now. Two weeks ago I called plod, who duly sent someone round the next day to ask me if I knew anything about it. I told him it was me who actually called up and he said he would ask up and down the street if anyone knew anything or had relatives staying. It is unusual to have anything parked on this road as most houses have decent sized driveways/garages. He also said they had run a check on the number plate and it was registered down south but not reported stolen. It seems a long way to come to abandon a car.
I live pretty much on top of Hadrian's Wall and my concern now is that someone has parked up to walk the wall and not returned. For those who don't know this is a pretty busy footpath, and not difficult to follow, so I don't think they have become lost necessarily but it is a possibility. It is quite common though for people to walk it one-way and return by bus/train (about 60 miles from here to the end).
Now, other than the fact it is making it difficult to walk past with a wheelchair or buggy, it is not obstructing the highway, or causing me personally any inconvenience, will it ever be removed? I know the Police will have more important things to worry about, but surely they could just knock on the owners front door and see why his car is 200 miles away?
Any ideas?
In 1977 I received a parking ticket from the council for parking on the pavement like this, so it still may be an offence. Have you spoken to the council?
I had parked up temporarily to take my motorbike out, got knocked off by a drunk driver, and spent the next three months in hospital.
The council cancelled the ticket when I explained.
Maybe your driver had a fold-up motorbike in the back and had a similar fate?

Can't you apply for the V5 from DVLA? Free Peugeot then.
Not recommended. That was the first step which led to a certain PH member being sentenced yesterday.
May we hear the story? Is it on PH already? Link, please!

It is 40mph.
OK, well there's a couple of offences under the Highway Code right there:Rule 248
You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space.
Rule 249
All vehicles MUST display parking lights when parked on a road or a lay-by on a road with a speed limit greater than 30 mph (48 km/h).
So I'd get back on to the police and make sure they log that you are concerned about safety, based on the above, and think the vehicle needs moving to a safer location.

I think that the OP wasnt bothered about it been there and looking for reasons for someone to move it, they are genuinely concerned that someone has come a cropper while out walking! Now, other than the fact it is making it difficult to walk past with a wheelchair or buggy, it is not obstructing the highway, or causing me personally any inconvenience, will it ever be removed?
