Police on horses stopping traffic....
Discussion
Last night i was in the Forest Of Dean driving down the road and was 3 horses and riders in the middle of the road with high vis and chevrons. To start with i thought it was those "polite" morons so nearly just drove by.
But no its was the actual police! And he stopped me for a chat (whilst he was on the horse).
Wanted to know what i was doing and where i was going.
Turns out as there has been a lot of burgularies, they are trying to prevent them.
Good i supose, at least the aim is good.
But i just cant see what the bloody horses are for/going to achieve.
1: they never asked to look inside my van, i could have just robbed somewhere, and told them any rubbish.
2: i just dont see how a couple of horses are going to put off a burgular.
3: where did they get the bloody police horses from? I thought they were fir riots, the FOD is not known for its riots, so cant see them having 3 horses just incase!
Has anyone seen anything like this before?
Or any ideas on the purpose?

Horses are probably bloody useful in a rural area for chasing burglars across fields or along tracks.

This.
Would motorbikes (motorcross, not Pan Euros!) not be just as effective as horses for chasing burglars down trails, and with much less upkeep as well as a use around town? They have a bigger range too - horses get worn out pretty quickly if asked to gallop, I believe?Flooble said:

Think they are unlikely to have to gallop for long to catch a human on foot. Intimidation factor is massive, Police horses are huge. One galloping after you is going to sound terrifying.
Plus most horses can sustain a flat out gallop for about half a mile, or a good run for a couple of miles.
I suspect the the real answer is in the re assurance to the public and the visible deterrent.

They are also a bloody pain in the arse ridden in the main by bloody ignorant, fat arsed women that don't get enough sex. Then bloody complain about bloody everything and expect the whole world to revolve around their bloody useless pet.
Hoorah. didn't take long for the anti-equine mob to arrive. You forgot to mention that they don't pay road tax, have insurance, etc..rscott said:

I have earned my anti equine rants. No worried about the tax, but they really should have liability insurance an ideally some way of identifying the beast and rider. Saw one only yesterday ride past my house on the phone. On road or off road, in the field or in a stable and even on wheels, horses and their owners are an utter pain in the arse.
Most riders do have liability insurance- it's usually part of the cover provided by the likes of PetPlan. Many livery yards also insist on it too. Some policies also now even require horse & rider to have hi-viz when on public roads.
I guess you've never seen a driver on the phone then....

Horses have followed me around like a bad smell for over 25 years, they are nothing but a menace.
