My mum's car insurance Is due for renewal, and as she's not very good with these things, I thought I'd run her through a couple of the comparison sites.

One of the questions is "Who is the legal owner of the vehicle?". Previously, she has always put herself as the legal owner, but upon checking her finance agreement, it specifically says that she is not the owner, but they are.

The only options to answer the question are various family members, leased - private, leased - company, company, society or club, or other.

I'm not sure of the name of the finance she has, but it's the type that has low monthly payments and large balloon payment at the end.

Any idea which option to select, or is she for all intent and purposes the legal owner?

"other" - the finance company.

I think selecting 'other' is likely to chuck a lot of rejections out of a comparison site - 'leased - private' would surely be closest to the real situation, assuming it's a PCP deal with the finance company retaining ownership.

To add, as above, putting "other " leads to most insurers not offering a quote.

Leased, private.

Although many would just put privately owned?

Thanks for the replies. In the end, my mum gave her current insurer a call and explained the situation. Her insurer said that it would need to go down as a company owned vehicle. Not what I was expecting tbh.

That is 100% wrong if it is a private lease or PCP type scheme. I suspect she did not explain herself very well to her current insurance company. A company owned vehicle is typically what the salesman drives, owned (or leased) by the employer.
