DVLA Online Reg Transfer
Discussion
Just tried to do this(again)
Has anyone actually successfully used this service?
Tried to put one of the bikes reg on retention, nope, can't be done online, it's pre 63.
Just tried to remove the (DVLA purchased) reg from the Jag, nope.
Even though the Jag has been taxed at all times in my ownership, and the reg has only been on the Jag since purchased, because it was untaxed at some point before I owned the car it also needs to be done via snail mail.

Yes, it was painless.
Maybe an age related issue?
Maybe the time of day? (Is this one of those stupid things that only works office hours?)
it is indeed office hours only. Maybe an age related issue?

The DVLA accidentally cancelled my RFL direct debit due to a "system issue".
Unfortunately this was the same time I tried to use the online system to transfer my cherished plate and as a result the application was rejected without explanation. No-one at the DVLA could find the answer, the car showed on DVLA website as taxed and I was even told at one point that my number plate could never be transferred off the vehicle (this had me very worried as value of plate is not insignificant).
All became clear 1 month later when I received a letter dated 6 weeks earlier asking me to set up a new payment method and that the vehicle had been untaxed due to their error.
Not a criticism of the system itself but did play a part in the confusion. If it had clearly told me "Your vehicle is untaxed" it may have sped up finding out the reason it was rejected.

As previously explained. Reg transfer online not available if your car has been untaxed in the last 5 years, even, as in my case, if you don't even own it when this happened. The explanation is from the DVLA, I called them(within the hours stated, same as when I attempted it online...) to find out. Glad it's working for other folk, wish it had for me as I have an interested buyer but can't sell it till I get the plate removed
