Just seen a very interesting advert on Facebook - a company that prtomises to pay your parking fine using money they generate from adverts on the app.
Certainly seems an interesting and very novel concept! Leaving aside ethics, is this legal do we think? I wonder if something similar will spring up for speeding fines?

It's just a "prize draw" where you get an entry per advert you view. By the looks of the rules you need to incur the fine/penalty first and then view adverts to gain entries, then you *might* win. Apparently there's a "chance-o-meter" - I don't know if they publish the number of prizes, entrants or any rough odds.

So that they pay your 'fine' isn't really relevant, it's just a marketing gimmick.

Edit: And they don't actually pay any fines, only Penalty Charge Notices and private tickets:

Registering with the App will allow you to enter your fine(s) into the pool, from which a random fine(s) is chosen when there is a draw.

Watching adverts could increase your chance of having your fine(s) paid, as this will increase the number of entries you have in the draw(s).
It's just a prize draw kinda thing, no guarantees, but in the meantime they're earning a tidy income from the ad revenue. I wonder how much they pocket vs putting into the kitty to pay the fines scratchchin. Interesting concept nonetheless.

it's a crap idea. a parking fine is not much money, only maybe 1 in 1000 will win, and those who don't win might be out of time and end up paying double.

net result = more parking fines paid.

In the meantime whilst some gullible schmuck is watching videos and answering surveys which lead to a bombardment of junk mail and spam 'phone calls, the PCN has gone out of the discount period, escalated to a charge certificate, had an Order of Recovery authorised by TEC Northampton, and two dudes with shaved heads and black jackets are on the way from Marsdens to collect £600...

Nope, can't see the potential issues there at all.
