Hi all.

Received a NIP for 62 in a 50 (temp motorway restriction) . Fair enough, I was in wrong.

My notice says upto 64 mph is a consideration for an awareness course. Anyone have an idea how likely this is?

It's my first offence if that matters at all.

Force policies differ but you are far better off taking the chance.
I would say it is very likely you will be offered the course, especially in a 50. I had one for 38 in a 30.
The option is a higher fine (£100) and 3 penalty points so what have you got to lose?

I would say highly likely - I think the authority can choose not to offer it, but I wouldn't imagine they'd do so for a first offender with a clean slate. Maybe if you were on 11 points there might be a difference!

Yeah thanks guys. It's with Staffordshire Police and their letter says they offer course where possible.

Hopefully they do choose to offer the course and don't go for points etc.

The number of points you currently have are irrelevant. The only considerations are (1) is the speed within the qualifying range (limit plus 10% plus 9mph) and (2) have you done a speed course in the last 3 years? Answer yes to both of them and win a major prize!😉

There are a couple of other points such as the offence taking place in England or Wales and there being sufficient time to allow taking you to court if you don't turn up to a booked course, but number of current points don't matter.

What? So you have to have done a course recently to stand a chance of being offered one?

No, he means you can't do a second course within 3 years of the offence date.
In my experience, if you have 11 points and are liable for disqualification, you are far more likely to be sent to court.
