Not going through insurance
Discussion
In petrol station last night, I clipped a vans wing mirror, and his wing,
have offered to pay rather than loose my 10 yrs clean and full NCB, would cost me more on just one car never mind the others,
thankfully the guy is a decent bloke and has texted me an amount to settle, ok he probably wont fix the wing but just stick a sh mirror on,
dropping cash off tonight. do I get him to sign a receipt/disclamer?
was thinking of flowers for his Mrs, She was driving (but not in it at the time) anything else I need to do?

I reckon cash alone without flowers/chocolates/voucher for two at the OXO Tower would do.
You could try and get him to sign something to confirm that he accepts the sum in full and final settlement of any claims arising out of an incident on X date but it wouldn't really stand up in Court if he tried to get more out of it.
Very low likelihood it would go further. I'd just drop the cash off and do one.

Not sensible in my book, much too trusting. At the very least get a document as above. This will be persuasive if it comes to court. Otherwise you have absolutely nothing. Also bear in mind it is a van, therefore possibly a company vehicle. The company may choose to go through insurance at a later date. You could try and get him to sign something to confirm that he accepts the sum in full and final settlement of any claims arising out of an incident on X date but it wouldn't really stand up in Court if he tried to get more out of it.

If you have any concerns, just send him a rely to his text saying something along the lines of 'thank you for your understanding in accepting the cash settlement....' then keep a copy of both his offer, and your confirmation.
