Village road only for use by villagers. How is this legal?

Hiw can this be legal. It obviously is otherwise the police wouldn't be threatening people with a fine but effectively saying only people who live in the village can drive through the village seems barmy. I know it's a very expensive area to live so I wonder if some rather wealthy people with connections to the council/police have managed to enforce this. Reading of the comments seems to show mixed opinions. I personally didn't want people using my street in Lincoln when I lived there as a rat run but it was and still is very very busy during rush hour.

They aren't.There's - perfectly legal - restrictions, "no entry except for access", with all the required signage. That access is for anybody with a legitimate requirement for vehicular access to the area, resident or not.
Saving a couple of minutes at the traffic lights doesn't come under that.
Really? Did you actually read the article that you linked to? You completely made up the idea that it's only for the use of the people who live there.
I guess this is just an alternative fact that you have conjured up?
I guess that 'no entry accept for access' is too hard a concept for you?
Words fail.

But I want access to the road as I want to cut 10 mins of my journey and egress the other side. Therefore I have a reason to enter. There's also a little farm shop selling eggs etc. I might just want to be going there then.
I know it sounds selfish. But nobody wants busy traffic outside thier houses but if every village or town did this then the network would grind to a halt. So why should this exclusive village be treated any better than others.
I would be interested to see how many people have been prosecuted. Could this be obtained via a FOI request. Seems like a giant waste of time.
Also assuming I was stopped and fined could you appeal it in some way. Seems like a very perculiar situation to me.
Oh well, I don't use that rat run any more as waddington (village further down the road) becomes a massive pain in the butt as well (although there is a well known set of rat runs around that as well with no signs to protect them (maybe thier not as rich an influential)).

Yes it is too hard for me to understand. Thanks for your contribution. I guess this is just an alternative fact that you have conjured up?

No, you don't. That's not a reason for access to the access-controlled area.https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploa...
p19 of the PDF shows the "no entry except for access" sign, and explains it as...
The official line said:
Except for access to premises or land adjacent to the road, where there is no other route. Other exemptions may be shown.
Remember, it's actually a total ban on ALL vehicles... with the exception of those that have no choice.Markbarry1977 said:

Then that would be a legitimate reason. As would visiting the pub. Or visiting your mate who lives in the village."To get to the other side" is not.

Oh I love that idea. Just using the post box. I might have to go and check if there is one. Oh hold on I can't as the sign says no access. Oh sod it I will risk it for sJust have a stamped and addressed letter in your car and hey presto!

- https://goo.gl/maps/hTiQLB8HFxqThere is a major drawback with that ploy though. You will no longer be in possession of the evidence by the time you reach the plod awaiting your arrival at the other end of the village!
Is it just me, or is the exhortation under the name on the village sign somewhat superfluous? - https://goo.gl/maps/DUv89fWBmAS2
Presumably it's drivers headng north or south on the A607 who can't be arsed to drive a few hundred yards further to the traffic lights at the junction with Church Lane who are causing the problem.
We have a similar situation locally with drivers trying to avoid waiting at a roundabout by driving through a residential, traffic calmed road to shave a minute off their journey time. In both cases it's a gamble as they might then have to wait longer at their exit for passing traffic but it seems some are too hard of thinking to realise that.

No they are saying the road can be used by anyone that needs to get somewhere in the village, including people who don't live there. You can't use it just to get to the other side, and this includes anyone that lives there. The same rules apply to the villagers as you.Hiw can this be legal. Its got nothing to do with the wealth of the locals, we have one near us and its because its a country lane not really designed for 1000's of cars per day. When it was first introduced it was certainly policed.
Can some one explain what this mythical thing called a police officer is, the same as 6 points for using a mobile phone, who is going to enforce it. Perhaps a few times at the start.
This is a road maintained at public expense and this is a total misuse of the law by petty self minded parish council gits.
