Speed or education?
Discussion
What's your thoughts on people in cars driving at the speed limit but get into an accident with a pedestrian/cyclist.
There seems to be a lack of education these days about road safety all together, if the child was not on the road in the first place there would be no accident.
In my street we have a PE school teacher who plays football in the road with his kids they even have those pop up goal posts (the ball has hit a few cars but that's another story). I would like to think even a school teacher should be telling kids not to play in the road.
Cyclists,(don't turn this into a bashing thread) going thought red lights ect, not having a helmet or lights just adds to the problem.
There are lots that can be done to stop accidents happening but when they do it adds to the figures and ends up in traffic calming being put in, in the end its the fault of the motorist an they get punished by the above.

Even if it's clearly someone elses fault (EG cyclist or kid running into the road), the car driver is always to blame.
That's what the Govt have decided, anyway.
Except they didn't, did they(?) when they decided not to try to implement proposals for strict-liability. Still, you go ahead and use it as a cyclist-bashing exercise, don't mind the facts. That's what the Govt have decided, anyway.

Who ever promised anybody that it would always be safe and appropriate to drive at the speed limit?PAULJ5555 said:

So there are kids in the road, with goalposts and whatever. Not exactly an unexpected "I couldn't possibly stop" sprint out from between parked cars, is it?In my street we have a PE school teacher who plays football in the road with his kids they even have those pop up goal posts (the ball has hit a few cars but that's another story). Are you suggesting that it would be the kids who were 100% to blame if you drove through their game of football at 30mph?

but it adds to the mind set of children that's its ok/safe to play on the road, best to just tell them its dangerous and to keep off the road, unless crossing it and using STOP LOOK LISTEN.
And that's an entirely different question.TooMany2cvs said:

To what? The "entirely different question"?Yes, of course it's just basic common sense to teach kids roadsense. Who said it didn't?
No, the road is not the right place to set up goalposts and have a game of footie. Who said it was?
But let's just look back at your original post...

Yes, it would be 100% the motorist's fault if they happened to just blithely drive through that game of football. What kind of brain-dead cretin would even contemplate it being anything else?if the child was not on the road in the first place there would be no accident.

The football scenario was just to show how people are made to think these days.
The point was if the driver is not at fault they still get punished because of the inevitable traffic calming.
Maybe I should not have said the speed limit but just legally, hope this helps.
Might be worth asking the question "why are the kids playing football in the road?", I suspect that it's not going to be the first choice if a playing field was available.
If the road is the only place available then it's going to be better to do some physical exercise rather than none - look at our looming diabetes crisis for the why.
I'm making the assumption that they're not playing on a dual carriageway here?
