My car was parked up this evening outside a friends house. We returned to find the dash cam beeping at us saying 'event detected in parking mode'.

Upon checking the footage it transpires that the owner of the Mini parked in front of us has reversed into my parked car and then driven off. There was absolutely no need for her to select reverse she just decided to back into my car.

There's isn't much damage, a broken plate surround and some minor scratches to the bumper where the plastics have rubbed. I reckon the damage will polish out and the plate holder is a £20 fix.

What's complicating matters is that car got valued for PX today and is going back on Friday. My insurance is up for renewal on Saturday.

Is there anything I can do about this that doesn't involve insurance but DOES get the woman in a little bit of trouble?

You could send it to the police and see if they will do anything. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.
Leaving the scene of an accident without leaving your details or reporting it in person to a police station within 24 hours is an offence IIRC

FFS man, just get a new plate surround or do away with it, and try a bit of polish on the scuffs.

I do wonder how people get through their day sometimes.

Totally unnecessary comment. Have you seen the damage or any bumper mount Damage? No.

You have no idea what you're talking about then do you?!

If it's such a minor thing why don't you PayPal the OP some money to get the damage fixed!

OP, I feel really bad for you and I'd be p1$$Ed if this had happened to me. If it's a neighbour I'd speak to them first, if not, go to plod

Sort out the relevant repairs, make sure you've got decent photos and a receipt, and forward the footage to the police.

It will cost far more in stress and cash to delay selling the car, although your chances of recovering your loss are low.

Really?

So, you think that I should let the dealer get away with it, rather than find out the relevant course of action?

Not really comparable is it?

Weird.

Does the Mini belong to a neighbour? If so and it causes that much hassle to go through insurance, etc., sort it yourself but post the footage on YouTube and tuck a note with the link written on it under her windscreen wiper.

I agree it's not really comparable, inasmuch as the OP has a genuine complaint and you didn't.

No, of course i didn't.

I really don't have anything better to do so I like to spend my time making up stories on an internet forum for attention, which is why I have been here so long with such a high post count.

No, your thread was way more pedantic.
The OP is posting about something that affects them directly.
You weren't.

I don't live where the car was parked and by the looks of where she came from she isn't local either.

In any case. I've reported her to the Police.

Indeed, what an embarrassing hypocrite.

In various other incidents of hit and runs like this the OP has been told by police that without a reg no, they can't do anything. It will be good to see them do something in this case as you do have a reg. no.

Sadly I suspect the mini driver will claim to not know they did it, but hopefully you'll be able to get them to stump up.

is it an origonal fit number plate surround or after market?
if it's after market don't replace it, it would probably be going in the bin anyway

It's original OEM from the factory.

She got out the car to have a look for damage so there's no question that she knew.

You didn't make up a story, you were needlessly rude to the OP, your embarrassing thread was discovered and instead of saying sorry, you are trying to defend the indefensible while indirectly having a go at me too.

Stop digging!
