Opinions please, surprise hotel charges.

A wedding in central Scotland. Yours truly books several rooms for families at a national chain hotel, by card, expecting to be reimbursed afterwards. The night before the wedding the groom allows the best man, who was supposed to stay elsewhere, to kip in his room. On the wedding night the groom and his bride stay somewhere else, so the booking for that room expired. The best man booked another night in that room, paying on his own card, but reception, instead of creating a new booking for a new client, extends the old booking, using my details.
I've just been invoiced 100 quid because the pissed up dope head soiled the mattress.
I maintain that the booking was extended without my knowledge or authority, I didn't even know he was in the room. They should be chasing HIM for the cleaning charges, but the Operations Manager won't budge, my card's the one on file for the booking, that's the one they'll charge.
The best man left for Tenerife this morning, so I can't even give him a hundred quid kicking.
Am I right, how can they hold me responsible for someone I don't know, staying in a room I didn't book, because the receptionist was too lazy to create a new booking?

They didn't have authority to charge your card for that night.
He didn't have the right to charge your card. Your responsibility ended after your booking period expired?
Talk to the credit card company.
They charged his card for the night, but failed to update the card-on-file for the booking. Currently in conversation with someone further up the food chain. He didn't have the right to charge your card. Your responsibility ended after your booking period expired?

Why bother? Charge it back on the card and be done with it.
This, chargeback exists for stuff like this.I had a similar issue where my card on file when i was best man, load us is stayed. Some damage and a lost set of keys meant me getting his for £300.
Thankfully the guys i was with were decent and i recovered the costs directly. Isn't approaching this guy (even via the groom) an option? He ought to be s
tting himself with embarrassment?
