Reg document and tax
Discussion
I sold a car a few weeks ago, did the change keeper details online and it stopped the Excise license and I received a cheque for the remaining time a week or so later.
Over the last week I've been in negotiations with someone from Scotland who want's to buy my other vehicle, so much so that he's transferred nearly £500 as a non refundable deposit so I withdrew it from sale. I declared this vehicle SORN on the last day of March. He's due to pick it up this Friday so I gave him the 12 digit number on the V5C/2 so he could retax it. This he has done and I'm entirely happy with how the deal will be finalised and all the details surrounding it. (Both vehicles were mine, private sale)
The only remaining thing to do is fill in the V5, give him a receipt, count my money and he'll be on his way.
Question is......Given my first sentence above, if I do the transfer online, will that stop the tax again? If it does, will I be sent a cheque for something which he has already paid for?
The guy buying it has been a real pleasure to deal with and I wouldn't want him to get stitched up by the DVLA due to some administrative nightmare.
Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Thanks

He's taxed it on the V5C/2 number, rather than the main V5C? Then, no, it won't kill it - because he's taxed it as the new keeper.
Would this still apply given that the date of sale on the V5 will be later than the date he taxed it using the V5C2?Would we be better off putting the date of sale as the day before he retaxed it?

Just use the date he taxed it.Would we be better off putting the date of sale as the day before he retaxed it?
Thanks

Either way it's not something that'll cause me an issue, but I wouldn't want to see him caught out.
You can do zilch to prevent it because it is entirely dependent on the DVLA processing the data correctly. The buyer would be well advised to use the DVLA vehicle check to make sure that Swansea doesn't screw it up.
It takes so little time to do that I would perform the check on a daily basis for the first week following the online RK transfer.
Where that Agency is concerned I would take nothing for granted!
