I have just received a penalty notice from the State of Florence for an alleged speeding offence committed in July last year. The car was a hire car and the date tally's with my holiday, I am accused of being 15kph over the limit. Anyone know what my rights are?

This seems an unduly long time to serve notice, but I'm guessing that I shouldn't ignore it though I'm inclined to argue that the time that has elapsed means I can't remember whether it was me driving. Any advice appreciated.

How much is the fine?

I may be pretty cool to have a speeding ticket from there. Does it look really stylish and something suitable for framing?

The Italian authorities have 360 days from the point when you are identified as the driver.

You're well within that (ridiculous imo) time frame.

Up to you whether to ignore it. I have no experience on which to base any advice.
Others may know whether the Italian authorities could actually give a censored
Or, should they do so, whether it will become an issue if/when you visit Italy again.

Ignore it! Nothing will happen.

Absolutely nothing will come of it. Doing it again 3 times will have the same result. They are too lazy, distracted and provincial to care beyond blind hope.

Ask me if you must... winkhehe

What's the likely outcome if you get pulled over for speeding by a human being next time you're in Italy, with your three existing penalties unresolved?

Related question, what's peace of mind worth, to you?

Not entirely sure if you're tongue in cheek here? I fully intend to return to Italy but if there's seriously no chance of this being a problem I will ignore it because I genuinely do not know who was at the wheel of the hire car on the day in question and 15kph is hardly Bonny and Clyde stuff. All said the fine won't break the bank (140 euro), so would appreciate you giving me a slightly fuller explanation if you can, thanks.

Keep it as a souvenir from your holiday.

Agreed, the only way anything will come of it is if the hire company has already taken the money from your credit card - in which case it's too late...

Assuming a UK driving licence then an on-the-spot fine, same as if there were no previous.
