Registration transfer: how long until the new number?
Discussion
Someone has offered to buy the registration number off my car to put on a retention.
Trouble is I'm due to part-ex it this weekend and don't want to delay the process.
Does anyone know how long it would take, using the online system at https://www.gov.uk/keep-registration-number for a new registration number to be assigned to the car?
Given that I'm trading it in, what happens with V5s and so forth?
My instinct is that it's just not worth the hassle, but if all this stuff is super quick and easy then I might do it.
(apologies if SP&L is the wrong subforum for this question)

Did this recently. Instant to change it and the retention cert and V5 only took a few days.
V5(C)s about two days now.I must admit that when they started closing down all the local DVLA offices (LVLOs?) I was very sceptical - I used to have to go along to Streford to swap plates and it was a right ballache - and god help you if you had the slightest thing not right on the forms. Back home you went and another two hour wait when you got back. It was crap.
But all this online gubbins is bloody fantastic! All you need are the reference numbers and away you go.
