Who qualifies as a Motor Trader for the terms of the V5C/3?

For example if I'm selling a car with a broken windscreen, and the purchaser's primary business is windscreen repair, and he is going to repair and then sell the car, would he count as a Motor Trader? He is not normally in the business of buying and selling cars.

Could there be any comeback on me as the vendor if the purchaser was deemed not to be a Motor Trader?

That'd be just fine.

The "in the trade" bit just says to DVLA "Somebody else is responsible for the car now, not the previous keeper, but he's not going to have it long, isn't going to have it on the road - so no need for an explicit SORN - and don't increase the number of registered keepers or issue a new V5C in his name."

If the car moves on within the trade, DVLA don't need to be informed - only when somebody wants to put it back on the road in their name.

Just make sure you notify DVLA that you are no longer responsible for the car.

If the buyer wants it as a trader, as already said, fill that bit in and notify DVLA, online makes it really quick and simple now.
