Terrifying!
She wasn't pregnant at the time of the incident, though.Terrifying!
Some cynics could think that she got pregnant to try and spare her evil ass from jail, but not me. Oh, no.

What an absolute piece of work.
Amazing how you can use a car as a weapon to try and kill someone, yet still get such a lenient sentence.
Even the most mentally deficient of people should be able to know that if you drive a car into a cyclist like that you will be lucky not to kill or cause them serious debilitating injury.

Took part in this a while back. Young girl on drugs knocked over and killed a young guy on a motorbike when she went through a junction. Got pregnant and avoided a jail sentence completely. Boils my Piss mightily.
Accident are accidents, but driving a car while drunk/drugged and killing someone is not an accident any more than if I wandered down the high street swinging an axe around.

In no way am I condoning her actions, quite the opposite, but I don't understand why the cyclist thought it was a good idea to kick her wing mirror off after he got, what I can only imagine to be, such a hostile reaction to challenging her about the use of a mobile phone. I think that people should be challenged over their actions but sometimes you just need to shrug your shoulders and carry on with your day in the acceptance that the person is an idiot and isn't open to your views other wise your likely, however undeserving of it you are, to end up in a situation such as this.

Probably a bit of red mist from the cyclist who had a driver not paying attention (on the phone) pulling out in front of him. He expressed his displeasure and instead of "sorry didn't see you mate" got a barrage of abuse back and he lost his temper and kicked the mirror, the punishment for that is death. thehammer said:

I was thinking this too. At the end of the day, there are plenty of basket cases around who see red and would kill you without thought. As a cyclist, you have to be very, very forgiving. You will always lose out if it turns ugly with a vehicle driver. So, even though drivers can be really, really frustrating and dangerous at times, it's best to let them be and get out of their way.
I was nearly driven into the other week when a car emerged from a junction on the right, straight across my path as I was going down a road. Even though it was my right of way, did I keep pedalling to get in-front of them to make a point? Hell no. I braked hard and let them get on with it. Me proving a point that day would have seen me in hospital or a morgue. I have a family to think about and I can't put myself in danger just to prove a point.
Personally, I would never touch another person's car or even point out the illegal act they are partaking in. Just isn't worth it. Me telling them they are doing wrong won't make it any better,
It's a damn shame really as cycling is so much fun. There are a lot of idiots behind the wheel on the roads.

Unfortunately, it's very rare for anyone to respond with 'sorry'. Especially when you are on a bicycle. For some reason, some motorists hate cyclists. You don't need to give them an excuse to got nuts at you.I was nearly run off the road a few years ago by a Cayenne driver. He accused me of riding through a red light, even though he was behind me as we set off when said lights turned green.
He was so incensed that he drove alongside me, started calling me a t
t for jumping the lights, shouting and waving his arms at me. Because I didn't respond, he drove sideways and tried to push me into the kerb. I saw it coming and just braked.I can never excuse the actions of anyone trying to hurt anyone else with a motor vehicle. However, you just need to leave them be and stay away from them when you are a vulnerable road user.

I think that is the problem. Someone come very close running you over, and when you talk to them all you get it "f&* off". You know nothing is going to change. It is hard to step back and do nothing, even if that is the correct move.thehammer said:

We can only speculate...I've narrowly avoided a similar situation where all I did was ride along the road. Someone took huge offence to the fact that they hadn't seen me, pulled out of a side road to cross the road I was riding on nearly hitting me, and I shouted out as it happened.
There was a loud screech of tyres as they turned around and then tried to ram into me. I heard them coming and had the presence of mind/bike skills to hop up the nearby high kerb and calmly make my escape.
There are people out there that take such offence to cyclists that they don't even need an excuse to try and kill you.
I had this happen to me a couple of years ago where my family and I were threatened and (I was) racially abused. There are some people out there who clearly have a screw loose:

Not a prison sentence nor was the incident anywhere near as bad, but it just goes to show that it doesn't take a lot to aggravate an angry moron...
