On one of the threads the OP said he was told something like the DVLA is checking all inactive records.
Are they cleaning up their records then?Because after my Dad died I found a V5 for a car of his that got scrapped whilst abroad and never reported to DVLA, 30-something years ago and it still shows up on the database with tax due 1st Jan 1985...

That would be exempt from the SORN regulations.Because after my Dad died I found a V5 for a car of his that got scrapped whilst abroad and never reported to DVLA, 30-something years ago and it still shows up on the database with tax due 1st Jan 1985...
I got one last week for a car i've owned since 2013, 1st time i've heard from them since purchase. The car has never been used on the road since I bought it and i'm sure I would have sornd it when i bought it.
I filled in the sorn online using the v5 info. Hopefully there's not a fine coming my way.

Did you renew SORN after 12 months ?Prior to 16/12/2013, SORN declarations required to be made annually.
From that date, a SORN declaration remains in effect for as long as the vehicle remains unlicensed and is not sold / scrapped / exported etc.

I realise that, just wondering if there was any attempt to tidy up the hundreds or thousands of cars that aren't around anymore? It would certainly make sense to eliminate vehicles that have seen no activity for a certain period of time...
My daughter was sent one (I think I mentioned it on another thread), the car in question was SORN'd a few years ago and kept in a garage, it was moved out of the garage onto a communal off road parking area last year, as the garage was needed for temporary storage, and then the car disappeared.
It was reported as stolen to both the Police and DVLA and she's not heard anything since and then she gets this letter.
I've checked online and it's down as untaxed, all very odd.

I got one, I rang them up and spoke to to a human.
She sounded rather fed up and asked if I had actually read the letter to the end.
It is a record cleanup.
I couldn't find a number to speak to a human. She sounded rather fed up and asked if I had actually read the letter to the end.
It is a record cleanup.
Perhaps they should have put something at the start of the letter and not the end or removed the threatening looking red writing at the top?

Just checked my dates....actually purchased on September 2014. Prior to 16/12/2013, SORN declarations required to be made annually.

So no idea why I got the letter.Forums | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
