So I've spilled ketchup on one of my V5s.

It's £25 to apply for a replacement.

But I could send the V5 back in (it's not completely destroyed) with a different address. Then when that arrives at the other address, I could change my address back again.

Is that legal?

Legal or not, it will cost you more than £25 in VED.

What is the problem with having a ketchup stained v5, are you selling the car?

Why would just changing the address cancel the VED ?

Just in the spirit of being nosey how exactly did you manage to spill enough ketchup on your V5 to need to replace It? Was it some sort of ketchup disaster of unique proportions. My best one was not checking the lid was screwed on securely before giving the bottle a vigorous shake and then having to explain to my mum how I had got ketchup on the kitchen curtains and the ceiling.

V5 is all but useless these days anyway. You can do everything online, infact its a much better and safer way for both parties, so why bother

Did this once too but I was stood in front of the bottle, thought I'd took the brunt of it on my shirt when I turned round it looked like someone had stencilled my outline in blood.

Mum wasn't best pleased but at least we had anaglypta covered in years of vinyl paint so it more or less wiped off...

Yes, do it.

It's not a request for a new V5 so no fee, it's not a change of keeper, so no refund and new road tax purchase required. Just a change of address which happens all the time during vehicle ownership. Just the cost of two stamps and envelopes.

And then when you feel like it, just do the same again back to your original address.

Obviously you'll have to use an address with a connection to you in case in the meantime the Police need to speak to you as the registered keeper or DVLA sending out a V11 tax reminder.

I don't actually know how it happened but somehow it leaked from the bottle (it was some kind of dark fluid from the ketchup rather than ketchup itself, which is even stranger - I'm guessing it was essentially vinegar) which was on the V5 for a very long time for absolutely no good reason.

No urgency or particular reason to replace V5 but I still want to.

Anyway thanks for advice gents, will go ahead with this!

Shouldn't this be in Food, Drink & Restaurants?
