Recently went to Richmond (yorks) and parked at the old station/swimming pool car park. Sign says must:
Enter reg of vehicle
Show valid ticket
In bay etc. The
But just a normal machine to buy ticket? No way to enter reg.
So my wife asks in old station shop area, they say oh signage all wrong just buy ticket.
We pay go for walk, three hrs later we return to see 'attendant' photographing car next to us. I say you issuing ticket, yes says he. I said signage is wrong and confusing. He says tell me about it we don't understand what is going on? Wtf.
Apparently another company had it but now council, I think that's how he tried to explain it. But old signage with new machines.
So how can you ticket the car next to me?
He laughs and says not my fault. They have parked illegally.

I assume the OP means the guy who hadn't bought a ticket was a dick.

Ok, I didn't explain myself so any flack deserved smile
I was annoyed because the signage was wrong, accepted by parking guy who said he was confused as well. But still issued ticket and laughed because somebody had been confused enough to get a ticket.
I just hope people don't pay and fight.
The dick imo was the parking attendant. Who thought it funny to issue a ticket in those circumstances.
Well annoyed me anyway.

I suspect so, but a bit strong all the same IMO. Could have bought a ticket but overstayed?

This is PH, it has to be the parking attendant.

Forgive me, but I'm going to have a stab at summarising....

OP sensibly bought a ticket from the only machine from which tickets were available but which, for reasons that are effectively irrelevant, wasn't the sort of machine described in the notice. All fine. Numpty 'other' driver either didn't buy a ticket, or did but it had expired and so, quite rightly, got a parking fine. OP then has conversation with parking warden re mismatch between machine and sign after which OP inexplicably brands said warden a 'dick' but for some bizarre reason thinks it is completely okay that the other driver parked illegally !
