Morning All,

We had a parking ticket through the post yesterday, identifying the wife's car as having been parked for too long on a street in London, (Harlow Council) warranting a ticket.

The offence allegedly occurred on 6th June this year.

We can categorically state that this definitely wasn't us or the car in question, a 17 plate Abarth 595, as we were both at work in Nottingham. Obviously we're working on getting bank statements, work IT log etc to back this up, but just wondering how likely it is that the plate could have been mistakenly entered by the ticket warden?

We'll request the photo evidence, but if it is another Abarth, I'm confident the options that we have on the car should set it apart from another. The reason I've stated the car type is because most of them are visually different due to the options available.

If the plate had been cloned, I would have expected more than just a single parking ticket by now? Should we go straight to the police at this point or just take up the objection to the offence with Harlow Council?

Has anyone been in a similar situation and can advise on the outcome?

It'll likely be the warden mis-recording the registration number.

I've had mine recorded incorrectly before and as a result completely ignored them, you're likely on the opposite side of this situation.

Cheers, in which case our first step would be to request the photo evidence.

I would have presumed somebody would check the letter against the photo evidence prior to sending it out.

IF it shows our reg plate on another car, THEN we'll contact the police.

It will be an incorrect digit input at some stage.

I would send an appeal, not just ask for photo evidence, if you just ask for a photo that is what they will send. Just state that you know your car was parked in Nottingham, or what have you, can they check the registration.

We had a van given a ticket in North wales the other day, similar situation, van was 100%not there, told the council and they admitted a clerical error.

You're over thinking it IMO. Just write back saying it can't be your car as it's never been to Harlow and ask them to check the mistake. (Unless, of course, it might be the date that is wrong...)

Not possible. Harlow is in Essex, 9 miles from the nearest point of any London Borough. If it is a street in London it will be LB Harrow.

You presume too much. In the Local Authority dash for cash such niceties frequently get overlooked. wink

Yes, why should they bother to check? If there's an error then let the innocent motorist do the sorting out. Some of them may pay up anyway!

Do you work with your missus? Do you categorically know she was in Nottingham or was she having an away day? 😂

Is call them and explain it might get dealt with really quickly!

Nor for Police - this is between you and the parking authority. Get them to check the images taken by the warden

Had a parking ticket from Birmingham council once stating I'd illegally parked my Mitsibushi Lancer Evolution. ( M12 EVO plate ). I replied to their letter stating I'd never been to the Birmingham location in question, in a car bearing that plate, and that the car the plate belonged to was my BMW E36 M3 Evo, not a Lancer. I would have thought it would be worth Birmingham council checking the DVLA's records prior to drafting their letters. The charge was dropped but there may still be someone out there who has my plate on their Mitsubishi Evo......

Had the same thing a few years ago, wrote to them saying the car was not in London that day nor any day, goy a letter back saying admin error.
Perhaps you should submit a large bill for your admin costs, sort of thing they do.

Took the words out of my mouth! £100/hour should cover it...

This. On a stick.

We get at least 2 or 3 every week, and it is a PITA to jump through the hoops to get it corrected. I do have some contacts in various parking teams that I can speak to direct to sort it out, but generally it needs to go through the representation process.

Sorted, thanks for all the responses.

Reg on the photo ended in KTA. Our reg ends LTA. Clearly a typo, that could easily have been checked and corrected.

It's pretty hard to confuse K and L even in the sloppiest CEO's handwriting.
Otoh, they are right next to each other on a computer keyboard... wink

Has anyone ever got paid doing this, I assume they need to agree to paying you prior to you sending out an invoice?

I agree. It's up to them to prove it was you, not for you to prove it wasn't.
