I *believe* it will end at 2359 on the 23rd, however only sure way to know is to ring your insurers and ask them. For sake of a 10 minute phone call, worth it to avoid 6 points, big fine and vehicle being seized.

If the certificate runs out on the 23rd, and it doesn't say a time, then you're covered for the 23rd. All of it.

It will clearly say on the certificate when your insurance runs out, its normally 23.59 on the expiry date.

As has been said, the certificate will specify the time.

Usually midnight, but I have had ones that expired at midday so it's worth checking.

If it says it runs out 23:59, then you are covered for 23:59.....all of it. So 23:59:59.99999rec seconds.

But does it say which time zone?
(Mine states it runs out at 12:00 noon on its last day)

Ooo, good shout. Your policy runs out at noon. You haven't renewed it because you're going to take it off the road and store it abroad. So it's 11.30am in the foreign country your are in, and you're driving the car for the last time to your lock up, when you crash it. But it's 12.30 in the UK at the time of the accident. Covered?

I guess you say it's 11:30, the tp say it's 11.30, the police report says 11.30. Guess you're ok.

But you've got three bald tyres, non standard wiper blades, you filled up with 99 Ron fuel instead of 95 and your MOT expired at 23:59 UK time.

Now what?

Not sure how it is these days but insurance companies used to use noon or 23.59 and it wasn't standardised.

Had a long and interesting conversation with a customer once because we were diddling him out of half a day's worth of insurance because his start time and end time were twelve hours apart. It was a long time ago so his premium was pretty small, I calculated that we owed him seven pence for the missing half day

Then I realised that we were in a leap year so he'd actually had a free twelve hours instead.

I told him I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the extra money from him.

Admiral Group used to (maybe still do) use 00:01. Was quite handy on one of our cars, registered and insured on the 1st of the month, as it could be re-taxed before the insurance was renewed.

But they don't check it anyway these days.

I am fascinated with the amount of questions he answers recently by saying that the Insurance Act 2015 covers it.

Probably not allowed to post the link, but here are some of my favourite pieces of Honest John's questions and answers which near the end are now amswered by the Insurance Guru...
